Monsters of the Deep

Congratulations on finding an Uncertain Tides Sculpture! This is 1 of 4 sculptures dotted along the coast from Exmouth-Paignton.

It was inspired by work with Mill Water School, East Budleigh. We worked with a group of young people to explore what happens to our seas when there is too much rubbish left in it. The students created their very own drama performance, acting as Beach Busters - cleaning the beach and defeating their very own Trash Monster!

About The Project

Uncertain Tides was a 2 year project from 2023-25 connecting diverse young people across Devon with their local coastline. We worked in Primary & SEN schools, libraries, heritage spaces, theatres & the great outdoors to explore what the coast means to young people today, the challenges it faces and how we might protect it in the future

Thanks To...

The National Lottery Players and The National Lottery Heritage Fund for funding the sculptures.

Brendan Rawlings for sculpture design & creation.
The staff and students at Mill Water School for all your hard work!

"This company understands how to perform children's theatre in a way that isn't dumbed-down or diluted. The performances are vibrant, rich, detailed and challenging - they expect the children to 'get it' and they do. The benefit is that we as adults can enjoy the show just as much"
