Performer Call Out – The Jolly Christmas Postman

 

For the co-production between Exeter Northcott Theatre and PaddleBoat Theatre of The Jolly Christmas

Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

The project is a co-production between the Northcott and PaddleBoat Theatre, to run in the 270 seat Barnfield

Theatre, Exeter in December 2025. 

Summary

We’re bringing the award-winning children’s classic The Jolly Christmas Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg to

life on stage in an exciting new co-production between Exeter Northcott and PaddleBoat Theatre Company.

The production will run in the 270-seat Barnfield Theatre, Exeter, in December 2025.

We are casting for one dynamic performer to join a cast of three. The ideal candidate will have a playing age of

25–40, be a strong physical and vocal performer, and bring experience in multi-rolling and devised work. This is

a joyful, fast-paced, and playful show for family audiences — packed with iconic fairytale characters, festive

cheer, and plenty of audience interaction.

Key Dates

Rehearsals 17th November - 14th December 2025 and take place in Exeter.

Technical and Dress runs 15th December 2025 at the Barnfield Theatre, Exeter.

First Public Performance: Tuesday 16th December 2025

No performances on the 19th, 25th or 26th December 2025

Final Public Performance: Sunday 28th December 2025

Shows will be a mix of two and three show days.

Key information

Semi-devised rehearsal process.

Show length approx 50 mins with three performers.

£600 per week x 4 weeks rehearsal + 2 weeks of show run = total fee £3600.00

 

Desirable skills

 Experience performing to/working with young people

 A strong physical performer with ability to multi-role larger than life characters

 Confident singer

 Enjoyment and experience in devising

 Puppetry skills

 Interacting with audiences

 Local to The Barnfield Theatre, Exeter, as there is limited travel budget and no accommodation

budget.

Auditions 

We will hold a workshop audition on the 4th September 2025 at the Barnfield Theatre, 10am-12.30pm. We

will send out further details about the content of the audition after applications close. Please let us know any

access requirements you may need.
