This double callout is to contract two performers to join performers Michael Smith and Laura Loft, Director Katy Dash and Musical Director Hattie Brown on a brand new family production 'Signals of the Sea'..

This brand new production is funded by Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund. The 50min show will be semi-devised and tour theatres, community settings and schools in Devon in June and July 2025.

Are Looking For

Performer 1 Grandchild -  young playing age

We are looking for a spirited stage performer to play the Grandchild of the lighthouse. They will be youthful (aged between 9-13), energetic and warm with a passion to make a difference in the world. 
 

Desirable Skills Performer 1

  • Experience performing to/working with young people

  • A strong physical performer

  • Youthful energy

  • Confident singing ability including harmonies.

  • Enjoyment and experience in devising

  • Facilitation experience & interacting with audiences

About the show

On an island in the South West Sea stands The Lighthouse. 

Its steady beam has rotated for hundreds of years and in that time cast its eye over countless tales of pirates, shipwrecks, sea creatures and more.

Now the Lighthouse Keeper welcomes you to come and join him and learn the fantastical secrets of the lighthouse. Come weather the storms, bunker down and seek out the true meaning behind the signals of the sea. Can you help the Lighthouse Keeper discover what is really going on beneath the waves?

 

PaddleBoat Theatre presents an interactive children's show about harmony, hardship and hope.

Performer 2 
storyteller/muli-role character

We are looking for a dynamic stage performer to play multiple fun characters who come into contact with the lighthouse/ the lighthouse keeper. The different characters will be enjoyable to watch physically and vocally.
 

Desirable Skills Performer 2

  • Experience performing to/working with young people

  • A strong physical performer

  • Confident accent ability and/ or good vocal range. 

  • Confident singing ability including harmonies.

  • Plays musical instrument

  • Puppetry experience 

  • Enjoyment and experience in devising

  • Facilitation experience & interacting with audiences

​Production 

Rehearsals will take place Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9.00 - 4.30 at The Cygnet Theatre in Exeter from the 6th May - 6th June (note: first public performance is taking place on the 7th June so Friday 6th will be a rehearsal day).


Casting type: In-Person in Exeter

Workshop audition on the 9th April in Exeter from 10-12pm, for shortlisted applicants. We will send out further details about this to those invited to attend. Please let us know any access requirements you may need.
